Mission Statement for Counseling Program |
|
|
To enhance the school environment is such a way that students will feel accepted, challenged, and supported in the pursuit of academic, emotional, social, and vocational excellence. |
In guidance, we will be discussing a character trait each month. A student in each class will be chosen by the teacher who best reflects that character trait. That student will be given a certificate during the award ceremonies at the end of each 9 weeks. The character trait and corresponding month follow.
| August- Respect | January - Honesty / Trustworthy |
| September- Work Ethic | February – Citizenship |
| October- Responsibility | March – Courage |
| November – Gratitude | April- Empathy |
| December- Caring/Kindness | May - Determination |
Small groups allow students to receive more individualized attention. A group setting also allows students the opportunity to se other students in similar situations in an environment that is non-judgmental and supportive. Groups are confidential. Information shared between students is not discussed outside of the group setting.
Most groups include activities such as reading stories on the topic of the group, discussion, journal writing, etc.
These are groups that are offered every year:
Self esteem - Helps students appreciate their uniqueness
Anger management - Helps students develop constructive ways to handle anger/conflict.
Divorce - This group is more personal than the others. More of a support group rather than a how-to group.
Study Skills - Helps students develop more effective study habits
Friendship - This group focuses on making friends and keeping friends.
These are groups that will be offered based on perceived need.
