My name is Judy Rickman and I have taught first grade for 28 years. I began my teaching experience at Hardison Elementary here in Lewisburg in the fall of 1975, after graduating from MTSU with a degree in Elementary Education 1-9. The school moved to a new facility in 1980 which is today Marshall Elementary School. I remained there for 21 until I requested to be transferred to Oak Grove, where I have taught for 2 years. In 1985 I received my Master’s Degree from MTSU in Administration and Supervision. Twice I was selected as Marshall Elementary’s Distinguished Classroom Teacher of the Year and both times was also named Marshall County’s Distinguished Classroom Teacher of the Year for grades K-4 (1989-90, 2001-02). I have also, through the recommendation of past students and administration been listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers a number of times. During my 28 years in the Marshall County School system I have served on numerous committees, been a presenter for summer in-services and have held the offices of President and Secretary of the Marshall County Education Association. In addition, I am a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Educators. Besides teaching I am the wife of Jim Rickman, who is associated with David Jent Realty here in Lewisburg and the mother of three daughters. Julie, my eldest, is 27 and teaches Kindergarten at Barfield Elementary in Rutherford County. Jill is 25 and is a Master barber at Belleeza in Murfreesboro. My youngest daughter, Jessica, is 23 and works for a dentist as an assistant also in Murfreesboro. I love teaching and working with small children and have always considered it an honor to be a part of such a noble profession. |
